Project: Help democratize data mining: develop a manual, an interactive tutorial and a support website for open-source tools.

Teresa Bouza's fascination with journalism began in high school, fed by conversations with the owner of the newspaper in the isolated village in Galicia, Spain, where she grew up. Intensely curious about the world and hooked on storytelling, Bouza majored in journalism at Complutense University of Madrid. She worked as a radio newscaster and wrote human-interest stories for a regional newspaper. In 1992, she lived in Romania to research post-communist news media on a Spanish government fellowship. Bouza then began working toward a Ph.D. in Eastern European politics, but was recruited to join the Spanish financial daily Cinco Dias. Three years later, she moved to New York to join The Wall Street Journal's Spanish language edition as an editor. She then entered the master's in journalism program at Columbia University, where she focused on multimedia and broadcasting. In 2005, Bouza joined Agencia Efe, the world's leading Spanish-language news agency, as a senior correspondent based in Washington, D.C. She recently won an International Women's Media Foundation grant for digital entrepreneurs.
