Challenge: Develop a mobile reporting tool that streamlines multimedia storytelling for live sports coverage.
Eric Ortiz didn’t set out to become a journalist. Growing up in Los Angeles, he dreamed of playing in the NFL. But after breaking his neck playing high school football, Ortiz learned how to pivot. He attended Stanford University, walked on to the baseball team and earned an English degree. His life as an editor began in 2000 at ESPN.com. In 2008, he joined New England Sports Network, launched NESN.com and helped build a profitable digital media business. Ortiz is grateful a pro sports career never materialized. He met his wife at a National Association of Hispanic Journalists convention, and journalism has taught him the necessity of diverse viewpoints. Now he game-plans as a media entrepreneur focused on creating a better world through advertising-supported disruptive innovation.
