Former Knight Fellow wins ASNE award
Chicago Tribune staff reporter Barbara Brotman, a 2003-04 Knight Fellow, has won an American Society of Newspaper Editors Distinguished Writing Award.

Brotman won the ASNE Nondeadline Writing Award for her series, "The Parting: One Man's Final Journey," chronicling the final months of hospice care for a retired insurance agent at a nursing home. The stories appeared Nov. 19 and 20, 2006.
Brotman has been a member of the Chicago Tribune staff since 1978, as a reporter, feature writer and columnist. During her Knight Fellowship at Stanford, she focused her studies on religion and women.
The award carries a prize of $2,500 and will be presented on Thursday, March 29, during ASNE's convention in Washington, D.C. Her series, along with other winning entries and interviews with the winners and finalists, will be published in "Best Newspaper Writing 2007," by The Poynter Institute, St. Petersburg, Fla.
